What Is TMJ/TMD?
The temporomandibular joint connects the jaw to the skull. Pain in this area is known as Temporomandibular Disorder. The TMJ can experience disorders such as ankylosis, arthritis, and dislocations.
TMD Symptoms Include:
- Biting/chewing difficulty or discomfort
- Neck and shoulder pain
- Dizziness
- Hearing loss
- Headaches/earaches in the morning
- Jaw pain or tenderness
- Reduced ability to open/close the mouth

Jaw Pain Treatment
While TMD can result from injury or arthritis, it can also be caused by an imbalance in the nerves, ligaments, and muscles.
It’s important to receive a proper diagnosis before deciding on a course of action, so Dr. Hernandez, Dr. Rios, or Dr. Urrego-Torres will conduct a thorough TMJ examination.
Once we’ve pinpointed the cause, we’ll develop a personalized treatment plan to alleviate your discomfort. We take a conservative multidisciplinary approach and use less invasive treatments whenever possible.
Options for TMJ pain may include oral appliances combined with physical therapy, trigger point injections, or injections with botulinum toxin. We’ll discuss your choices at your consultation.
